Week Five | Embracing Autumn

What’s Happening on the Farm

As the leaves begin to turn and the fall breeze makes its presence felt, we at Stone Hollow Farmstead fully embrace the season. This fifth week of our Late Summer CSA brings a refreshing chill and the excitement of al fresco dining, cozy fire-cooked meals, football games with friends, and our eagerly awaited Dahlia Day. Our entire team is bustling with preparation—our garden team meticulously tending to the vibrant dahlia blooms, while our kitchen and retail teams are crafting an array of seasonal offerings for you to sample and take home from our pop-up store at the farm. Join us on Sunday, September 8th for Dahlia Day! We would LOVE to have you join us. Details can be found below!

Stone Hollow Farmstead Sunflowers

This week, our farm kitchen is bustling with the aromas of fall favorites making their way to our FarmStand. Delight in our homemade apple pie filling, apple fruit topping, and rich apple butter. Additionally, don't miss our Pickled Persimmons and an assortment of pear preserves — Pear and Rosemary, Drunken Pears, and Pears in Syrup. These autumnal treats offer a delightful preview of what the cooler weather will bring to our harvests and hearts.

Included in this week's CSA box is one of our most exciting new launches at Stone Hollow Farmstead, the Yellow Currant Tomato Vinegar! This unique addition to our line of Cooking Vinegars features an exceptional flavor profile that we are absolutely thrilled about. It pairs perfectly with olive oil and a pinch of salt for a transformative dressing, serves as an excellent deglazing agent for your cast iron cooked dishes, and can be drizzled over cold salads like potato or pasta salad to enhance their flavors—don't forget to add chive blossoms for that extra touch. For those who enjoy a creative twist, try mixing this vinegar into a savory cocktail with gin or vodka. Cheers to enjoying this vibrant new flavor directly from your CSA box!

Yellow Currant Tomatoes

Our animals thrive in cooler temperatures, and the extended daylight hours have us savoring every moment outdoors. This week, in the absence of our favorite baker, Cory Hinkle, you'll get the first taste of our Olive Oil Cake from a special mix that we have included in your CSA box—complete with a digital recipe card to try at home. We're eager to hear your thoughts on this new addition!
