Week Eight | Heirlooms, Peaches, and Burrata! Oh My!
Hello, Summer CSA Members! We are delighted to bring you Week Eight of our Summer CSA! This week’s box is filled with gorgeous produce from our farm and friends, including carrots, onions, cherry tomatoes, blueberries, herbs, and more. Our kitchen team is in full swing, creating hundreds of our blueberry items — from Blueberry Rose Geranium Drinking Vinegar to Pickled Blueberries and our Blueberry Jalapeño Jam. The abundance of ripe blueberries has kept us busy, and we are excited to share these delicious creations with you.
In addition to our blueberry items, we are also focused on harvesting and sourcing loads of heirloom tomatoes from our farmer friends to make our beloved tomato-based culinary goods. Our heirloom Bloody Mary mixes have a cult following, and if you haven’t tried them yet, we highly recommend hopping on the bandwagon! These mixes are perfect for cocktails and make excellent bases for marinades and soups. Our Garden Vegetable Soup is another highlight, made with the season's glorious tomato harvest and beautiful summer vegetables. Watch for our brand-new Tomato Vinegar, which will be available shortly after a fun and flavorful development process.
This week, Deborah is heading to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens to speak with the Master Gardeners of Alabama about our seasonal efforts on the farm. Meanwhile, we are all doing our best to manage the brutal Alabama heat, from our blooms and animals to our incredible team at Stone Hollow. Speaking of drinking vinegar, did you know these were born out of necessity from farmers of the past? These vinegars helped keep them cool and provided essential nutrients. We are proud to continue this tradition, offering refreshing and nutrient-dense options to help you stay cool and hydrated.
We are excited to share a special treat in this week's box: Burrata from a family operation in New Jersey. Lioni’s all-natural burrata cheese is a fresh mozzarella filled with a light and creamy authentic panna di latte and pasta filata. Luscious and sophisticated, this Italian delicacy, originating from Puglia, Italy, is traditionally made at Lioni family operation located in New Jersey! Each piece of Lioni Burrata is packaged in purified water to ensure freshness. Experience the essence of this exceptional handcrafted Italian treasure! We usually provide our customers with local and regional items, but this is an exception because there is truly no better combination in our minds than fresh heirlooms, peaches, and burrata!
We hope you enjoy this week’s box! Thank you for being part of our CSA family. Happy cooking, and we hope you have a beautiful holiday weekend.
Alexandra and the Stone Hollow Farmstead Team
